Earlier Joti Basu was also heckled by his own party, but he has his own record to run a Govt for more than 25 years . I don’t know which rule books they follow but I can see so many corrupted in the CPI(M) they are living in Kolkata openly. But I should ask Mr. Chatterjee we love your skill and you are good enough.

Im not sure if i am in position to comment on whether he was right or wrong. I have been following news relating to him and so i can safely say that he has been a good speaker, doing what he was expected to do. its unfortunate that things had to turn up they way they have, but he was good at his job, so that should suffice.

Chatterjee was justified in holding his position. After all his duty called upon him to reside over a momentous vote in the Parliament. By his very nature a speaker is supposed to be non partisan and resigning would have meant that Somnath da was putting the party diktats over his office. That would surely have set a bad precedent and sullied the office of the speaker.

The correct thing probably would have been a resignation after the vote was over. And maybe He’d have done precisely that had Karat not jumped the gun.

This old yet strong man has some principle’s to live with.he has represented the Indian parliament for more than forty yrs and its not a joke to come up to expectations of the people for such a longer version of time......i think the old strong man should be left alone with his decision of resigning as he has suffered a lot due to this nuclear power deal

Aftr the party dismissed him. Today I was shocked when I saw the Left front leaders Debabrata Biswas, Biman Bose told the media that Mr Somnath Chatterjee was never a true communist. Now the Left Leaders are behaving like a shameless creature...only time will tell wht they are going is another historical mistake.

How do you think Somnath Chatterjee was correct? Buddy, this guy defied the party, the party that made him what he is now. If he is aspiring to become the President of India in 5 years time when he will be 84-85 then it is a different story. But this is despicable.

Yes , that is an important issue it is true that party made him , and he should follow the party line . But what about democracy then ? Although being a revolutionary party the Communist party take part in election , and once they accept the rules then they should respect that.

I guess he made the correct decision of not following the party diktat to put down his papers and vote like an ordinary member of parliament against the confidence motion called by Manmohan Singh. Of course the CPM should have taken a milder action because he was the Speaker.

Correct? If it was so, how does he find himself out of the red coffin now? The point is that his generally wise brain deserted him in the nick of time. It is such a shame that the party he served for 40 years had to boot him out because he started thinking that in the last 40 years he got bigger than the party.

Point is not about being bigger or smaller than the party. Just because he spent 40 years there doesn’t mean that he have to accept everything they say. If he is not bigger than the party the party is not bigger than the constitution. As a speaker he was supposed to be neutral and he did so.

It is young vs old camps in the CPM party. Somnath refused to resign as a speaker, so he is facing party whip. Dissent is never allowed and tolerated in communists groups.

What is unfortunate is the way young leaders are insulting him.

CPM is committing another historic blunder by this act.

Is it? Could it be a young reformist tendency pitted against the old inflexible party bureaucracy? Then it deserves to be encouraged.

In the case of Chatterjee, he was a right man in a wrong party.

Yes, They are fascists and have traits of communalism as well...

They believe in some greater god whose sole moto is to fight imperialism. So whatever they collectively decide to be opposed, has to be opposed by all party cadres.

Going for SEZs is not supporting imperialism, inviting foreign companies and investment is also ok. But civilian nuclear deal is allowing imperialistic forces...

Soviet imperialism went well with the Communists here. They stood in awe admiring the Soviet Russian suppression in Hungary, Czechoslovakia, and in other places. The killing and forced resettlement in far off localities of millions of people within the Soviet Union was ok for them. Moreover, their subservient attitude towards China is a high virtue in comparison to any trade and civil relations with the US. So much for their credentials as an anti-imperialist party.

WB is far worse than Bihar in development, only it is not yet reported on. Once the Communist regime falls the real picture of WB will emerge. Thirty years of misrule is the only achievement.

It’s may not be true I know some good things in WB that I have not seen in any other state :

1. Rural development (If you go far from Kolkata you can much developed that other state)

2. Quality of Education (very good prof available at common college : recently I have visited Engg college at Karnataka and Maharastar )

3. Concuss common people

4. Low cost transport ( 6 Rs/- for 10KM and that are frequently available )

5. Quality in agriculture (reflection of land reformation )

6. Low cost daily like less than Rs. 10/- is enough for breakfast

That are the good things :)
